BLOOMINGDALE, Ga. (WTOC) - Asked & Answered been tracking pothole problems on Stagecoach Road for almost a year after our viewer Mr. Harold in Bloomingdale wrote in about serious traffic safety concerns.

We have an update.

After our most recent report on the situation just a few weeks ago, Bloomingdale City Manager Charles Akridge has sent out a series of letters to four borrow pit owners asking for funding to repair Stagecoach.

Stagecoach Road is a main artery that runs through Bloomingdale connecting Chatham and Effingham Counties.

Akridge says the problem is coming from the Effingham County side.

He says dump trucks from the Effingham borrow pits are causing the most wear and tear on Stagecoach.

The City of Bloomingdale is now holding the borrow pit owners accountable.

“This road is in a state of disrepair due to the large volume of dump trucks navigating to and from your facility on a continuous basis,” Akridge writes to the owners in his letter.

You may remember the construction estimates the city sent us, showing the cost to repair Stagecoach has soared in the past year from $400,000 to now $1 million.

We flew our drone last month to show you all of the damage—giant holes in the pavement seen even from the sky!

The letters say the City of Bloomingdale is proposing using the contributions from borrow pit owners along with leveraging SPLOST funds to get this project done quickly.

Akridge says he hasn’t received any responses to his letter yet.
